IC packagers Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) and
Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) have said their supply chains
will not be affected by two major earthquakes that struck Kumamoto
Prefecture in Japan on April 14 and 16.
ASE indicated
operations at its manufacturing site in Takahata, Yamagata, which was
acquired from NEC in 2004, were not affected by the recent powerful
earthquakes.
ASE's production base in Yamagata offers
BGA packaging and other backend services for analog, digital and
mixed-signal ICs. Monthly sales generated from the site are estimated at
around US$100 million.
SPIL noted one of its suppliers
which provides QFN substrate materials halted production due to the
quakes. But with SPIL's dual-source strategy, there is no impact on
SPIL's operations, the company said.
ASE's share price
closed at NT$35.25 (NT$1.09) on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) on April
19, up NT$0.95, while SPIL's fell NT$0.65 to close at NT$49.85.
